Multi-tasking at 4 am PDF Print E-mail
Nov 20, 2007 at 02:47 AM

The best thing about working all night... spending a long stretch of uninterrupted time with my son. I love the way he's crashed in my lap in, yes, a care bear blanket. This little guy is the most content baby I've ever known. He'll probably wake up and start stirring in another 15 min, ready for diaper change and feeding. Then I'll really be multi-tasking.

Suprise visitors! PDF Print E-mail
Nov 19, 2007 at 07:49 PM

Micah had some suprise visitors this evening... meet Alexis and Olivia, daughters of our next door neighbors Pat and Lisa. We've watched both these girls grow up in the 5 years we've lived next door to each other. Alexis is by far the smartest little girl at her age. I remember when she was much younger, Pat would pull her around the neighborhood in her wagon asking her the color of everything. I don't think she got a single question wrong. Olivia is a sweetheart, a little shy at first but once she warms up to you, man can she carry on a conversation too.

my weekend PDF Print E-mail
Nov 18, 2007 at 11:10 AM

This weekend has been to put it bluntly, absolutely SUCKY, well except for the few hours spent with my family. I've slept maybe 8 hrs in the last 55. Most of the rest of the time has been spent sitting at the dining room table working.  Which is not necessarily all bad, but this weekend progress has been painstakingly slow and extremely frustrating.

Here's what I wish I was doing right now...

They say those who don't learn from history are condemned to repeat it... point taken.

updates and observations from the last few days PDF Print E-mail
Nov 02, 2007 at 08:05 AM

Mary Beth was released from the hospital on Oct 31. The hospital offered us a room to stay for a few days for free but we were pretty anxious to get home so we declined. The drive home was pretty miserable, obviously we never expected to have to come back home without Micah. She is still pretty sore but managing the drives back and forth from the hospital, and getting better every day.

Micah is getting better too. The nurse reported a bit of a weight gain on 11/1, so we're thrilled. We're trying not to take him out of the isolette every time so he doesn't burn too many calories. At this rate he should be transfered to an open crib later this weekend. We were told not to get our hopes up but he should be able to be home in LESS than a week.

The nurses in the NICU at CDH are AMAZING. They do such a wonderful job caring for all the little ones and their families.

Apologies to all the trick and treaters who stopped by, we were at the hospital feeding Micah. But the upside is we have a ton of candy to eat ourselves. HA! Tricks on you friends.

My wife has turned into one seriously HIGH YEILD dairy farm. Holy mackeral! I'm up to my eyeballs in pumps, tubes, and these little sterile containers. And I can put the whole apparatus together in my sleep...more about sleep later.

I've always thought of myself as a no-sleep stud; I can pretty much function with 4-5 hrs of sleep a night. Well my little 4 pounder has completely disavowed me of that notion, with a lot of help from my wife. I'm CRAVING sleep! I've actually learned that I can get a little shut eye pretty much anywhere, anytime. In fact I think I took a 30 sec nap while brushing my teeth yesterday.

I'm starting to miss work. There's actually a lot going on at work, we're working on implementing Oracle Applications rel. 12 for the entire quote-to-cash process. Phase 1, consisting of the financials reimplementation, is going live this weekend. Although I've been trying to keep up with emails, there's so much thats been transitioned to others. I'm incredibly lucky to work with such a great group of people. I'll start getting reengaged next week, but hopefully continue to work from home.
