Farewell old friend PDF Print E-mail
Feb 17, 2007 at 12:00 AM

This week we bid farewell to an old friend. The Saturn was actually more than just a friend, it was part of our family for the last 6 years. It was the first car Mary Beth and I bought together. At one time it was new and shiny, had that great new car smell, and was also the cheapest car on the lot. I have to admit we were a little disappointed with it and the repairs it needed in the first 6 months. We swore we''d never buy a Saturn again after those experiences. But 140,000 miles later I''d recommend a Saturn in a heartbeat to anyone looking for a reliable, cheap car. An added incentive; you don''t have to spend hours in a dealership haggling over the price and always wondering if you got a good deal.

One of my fondest memory with the Saturn will always be the long road trip Mary Beth and I took to Florida. On that trip we put a serious whopping on every other car on the road, and especially enjoyed putting some beemers to shame (nevermind they were driven by old farts). We almost considered stopping to visit it''s birthplace in Spring Hill, Tenn. Somewhere along I-75 it earned a place in my heart. We had pulled over on the side of the road trying to ride out one of those monsoon downpours florida is famous for, wondering if we were going to make it. Well we did.

I know it''s just a car and feeling sad may seem pretty lame, but so much has changed in our lives since we bought it. It was always there for us. Farewell old friend, thanks for serving us so well. I know you''ll be just as useful to some lucky person.

Happy Birthday Jess & Jen PDF Print E-mail
Feb 17, 2007 at 12:00 AM

Mary Beth, Morrison, Caleb and I made a quick trip to Normal, Il to celebrate Jess and Jen''s 13 birthday. The drive was a little hairy at times, but nothing the 4-runner couldn''t handle. We must have seen at least a dozen cars and trucks sliding off the road, but the most impressive was the sight of a 30 footer on the side of the interstate. Obviously a result of equal parts ignorance, foolishness and the lack of driving skills. Pictures

Our 6th wedding anniversary PDF Print E-mail
Feb 14, 2007 at 12:00 AM

Mary Beth and I celebrated our wedding anniversary on Sat. Hard to believe but it''s been 6 yrs, wow! We went for dinner at we and then went to see Doubt at the LaSalle Theatre . We certainly ranks high on the swank factor, the ambience is awesome, the service impeccable, and they have a great wine list (not that I''m a wine connoisseur). But I wasn't blown away by the food. The roasted garlic soup was very good, but neither Mary Beth''s Filet or my white fish was that great. I did enjoy the tiramisu. The LaSalle theatre (formerly Schubert theatre) is a great place to watch a play, it's very intimate. We had great seats but I don't think there is a bad seat in the house. It's really too bad they don''t allow you to take any pictures in it. Doubt is a very good play with a rich story. It'll leave you thinking and talking when it''s over. I have to admit though it was a little hard to stay focused after the full meal and a few glasses of wine! At least I didn't fall asleep like some of the other theatre goers. For whatever reason our show was packed with a rather older crowd. All in all we had a wonderful time. It''s been a great six years and the best part is, this is just the begining!
