President Bush recently concluded a two-day trip to India. The trip highlighted the growing economic and political ties between the two countries. One of the deals (Statement) signed during the trip was the nuclear deal, allowing for the sale for nuclear fuel, reactors and equipment to India, a country that has not signed the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. The Bush administration aims to win over critics of the deal by playing on India''s strategic relationship with the US and as a responsible state as opposed to Iran and North Korea (other non signers). Here''s an article mentioning another facet of the growing relationship between the two countries not talked about much; the growing military alliance. According to the article: "The largest democracy in the world and the oldest democracy in the world are becoming strategic partners, and that is a very consequential development in international politics," said U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Nicholas Burns. The two countries that will have the world''s second- and third-largest economies a generation from now have made an alliance against the country that will have the biggest economy, China. Interesting. Write Comment (0 comments) |
